We present the case of a patient with end-stage of multiple myeloma whose Tc-HMDP bone images at 2and 21-h showed diffusely and intensely increased activity in the liver in addition to subtle skeletal metastases. Concurrent CT, MRI, and subsequent bone radiography survey demonstrated multiple osteolytic lesions in the vertebrae, ribs, scapulae, and pelvic bones without abnormality of the liver.

Multiple myeloma in a patient with suspected hyperparathyroidism

Multiple myeloma (MM) is a clonal B-lymphocyte neoplasm of terminally differentiated plasma cells. Imaging modalities which allow the recognition of the effects of myeloma cells on the skeletal system have been utilized for a long time. Herein, we represent a patient with generalized osteoporosis and hypercalcemia, who was referred for parathyroid scan, in whom the widespread bone marrow techne...

Effectiveness and complications of 188Re-HEDP in palliative treatment of diffuse skeletal metastases

Introduction: Bone metastases are the most common cause of cancer-related pain in various primary malignant tumors, most often, breast and prostate. 188Re-hydroxyethylidene diphosphonate (188Re-HEDP) is a new and less expensive bone seeking radiopharmaceutical with favorable physical characteristics of the radionuclide such as short half life of 16.9h, maximal β energy of ...

Giant enostosis of spine with increased uptake on planar and SPECT views of bone scan

An enostosis or bone island is a benign bony lesion that is almost diagnosed based on clinical and radiologic defining characteristics. One of the known diagnostic procedures in the evaluation of enostosis is bone scintigraphy. Generally, we don’t expect to see increased uptake by enostosis in the bone scan. Herein we present a 52-year-old lady who was suffering from chronic low back pain that ...

Is 99m Tc-methylene diphosphonate bone scintigraphy a sensitive method for detecting bone lesions in multiple myeloma?

Background: Bone lesion in multiple myeloma (MM) is most commonly presented as a lytic lesion in this disease. Determination of extent of bone lesions in MM is necessary to follow-up the patients. Whole body bone scan with 99m, Tc-methylene diphosphonate (MDP) has a lower sensitivity than other modalities. Methods: From the patients with MM admitted to Ayatollah Rouhani Hospital of Babol-Iran ...

Comparison of 99mTc-MDP and 99mTc-MIBI whole body scans for diagnosis of widespread skeletal metastases [Persian]

Skeletal metastasis is one of the most important disabling complications of the malignant diseases. As in general, the survival of patients with osteometastatic lesions is relatively long, an early diagnosis can lead to improve the patient’s life, both quantitatively and qualitatively, and prevent exacerbation of the disease and disabling complications. In this study, 22 patients with est...
